Shortly after the release of his self-titled cassette, John Borra brought together the individuals that would and still do make up the John Borra Band. First was Colleen Hodgson. Colleen had played bass in a short-lived project that J.B. had with former Tav Falco, Busted Flush guitar player George Rienecke called The Holy Name Society. Next to join was former Blue Rodeo, Battered Wives drummer Cleave Anderson who knocked Johnny out when he said, "If you're ever looking for a drummer, give me a call." At the time Cleave was playing with punk rock legend Sam Ferrara(Viletones, The Ugly) in his band Screamin' Sam which included guitarist Steve Koch(Viletones, Demics, Handsome Neds).

J.B. and Steve had know each other for a while having played together in The Boneheads, Ron Sexsmith and a few other bands. They had also gone to Europe together with Bonehead leader Frank Nevada in 1991 playing music on the streets of Rome, Pisa and Vienna. Shortly after the John Borra Band had begun with Cleave and Colleen in early 1997 Screamin' Sam went on an indefinite hiatus and Steve joined as lead guitarist.
JB Band Alley      Towards the end of that year they started work on a new recording. Titled or self-titled "Band" was named in honor of the musicians that J.B. was so grateful to have in his company. The record was done bit by bit over the course of a year or so at Chemical Sound with former Living Proof guitar player and local sound luminary Al Miller at the controls. It was recorded on a 2" 24 track tape machine and features guest appearances by Blue Rodeo's James Gray on Hammond organ and Luke Mercier on violin.
